About Jim Miller

Jim Miller of Grand Junction, Colorado, was always a history buff, and painting has been his hobby for years.  So the two interests came together nicely when writers requested paintings of western outlaws and not just a reprint of a "Wanted" poster for their articles or books.

[He] majored in Art at Mesa State College, studying under Denny Sanders.  He gives lectures about the outlaw era, which he says spanned the years from 1889 to 1910.  His most recent talk was given at Moab's Western Stars Weekend last February [of 2005].
(The preceding was published in the May 30, 2006 article "Painter of Outlaws" in The Fence Post www.thefencepost.com.)

He was born in Hereford, Texas, in 1934, and moved to Parachute, Colorado in 1946.  His dad bought a ranch right at the spot where Kid Curry stole a rowboat for the Parachute Train Robbery in 1904.  His family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, when his dad sold the ranch in Parachute, and in Grand Junction he met his wife, Norma Eberhart.

After graduating from Grand Valley High School in 1954, he entered the 82nd Airborne; after finishing his Airborne term, he worked for Mountain Bell (thereafter known as U.S. West and finally, Qwest) for 43 years, and then retired.

He now enjoys painting and giving lectures about history, especially that of the old wild west.
